Sexual violence is one of the biggest obstacles to advocacy of prison abolition. Even for many  critical of the criminal legal system, sex crimes can feel like an exception. This often results in people supporting a strange mélange of policies that endorse less prison time for most crimes but harsher sentences for sexual violence.
