Juvies

Juvies is a serious look at kids being tried as adults. Narrated by Mark Wahlberg, Juvies asks: Who are they? What in their past led them to get caught in the criminal justice system? And, finally, is trying kids as adults the best solution we have to solving the problem of youth crime? The underlying subtext of this theme questions what in our American culture has caused us to demonize our youth and allow the collapse of the juvenile justice system, a system that was originally designed to protect them.
The stories highlighted in Juvies show how each child falls into the criminal justice system – a system, which has evolved into a style of vending machine justice. A wide range of stories is told, each representing a different problem contributing to juvenile crime: sex and teenage pregnancy, gang associations, child abuse and neglect, drug abuse, parental problems and running away from home.
